Hypnosis
Hypnosis is not mind control. No one can make you do anything in trance that goes against your core beliefs or values. You may have seen movies where people have fallen victim to diabolical post hypnotic suggestions, walking around like zombies, unable to control their own minds. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Many people are familiar with stage hypnosis, the fun kind of hypnosis performed in nightclubs where groups of people are invited up, put under hypnosis together, then asked to do and say funny things. That method of hypnosis is legitimate. But it only works because the person gave their permission to be hypnotized. allowing themselves to act on the hypnotist's suggestions.
The most important thing to remember is: You have to give your permission to be hypnotized or it won't work.
Hypnosis is not sleep, and you don't become unconscious. Even if you may not remember everything you say, just as you don’t remember everything you say during the day, at no time are you out of control of your body or thought processes.
You cannot become "stuck" in hypnosis just as you cannot be "stuck" in daydreaming. You will always "wake up" from a hypnotic state.
How the Subconscious and Hypnosis Work Together
Hypnosis is an excellent way to access life issues Think of your subconscious mind as a vast library comprised of row after row of shelves stacked high with books which contain all your beliefs and feelings. This is the place where you store every piece of information, every memory, and every emotion you've experienced. Even if you've forgotten about them!
It's the job of your conscious mind to stand guard over the subconscious library and it takes that responsibility very seriously. Say for instance you're feeling overly stressed. Maybe your family is demanding a lot from you . . . your job isn't fulfilling and the pay is bad . . . you work so hard stretching a dollar you're always wondering how you'll make ends meet. To make things worse, all that stress is keeping you from restful recuperative sleep. It's giving you frequent headaches or other bodily pains, and generally making you miserable. You can't possibly see a way to change any of it even though you want to. That stress and the resulting dis-ease it causes is written in one of your subconscious library books.
Now imagine someone gives you this good advice: "You'll feel a lot better if you just relax and stop worrying." Your conscious mind goes to the library book of stress, compares your belief that it can't be changed, and promptly rejects the good advice, keeping you stressed and exhausted.
Why did that happen? Because the positive statement was different from your subconscious belief. In other words, your subconscious is "hard wired" to keep you stressed. Even though you logically understand stress isn't good for you, without changing your subconscious belief, the cycle of worry and pain won't stop.
During hypnosis, your conscious mind feels safe and protected so it stands aside allowing you to interact directly from your subconscious. That interaction is what allows beneficial changes, or to put it another way, you re-write your book of stress.
